A motorcyclist died after police say a pickup truck turned directly in front of him and caused a crash on Sunset Road in Spring Grove Wednesday afternoon.
The Spring Grove Police Department and the Spring Grove Fire Protection District responded around 3:58 p.m. Wednesday to Sunset Road and East Applewood Lane in Spring Grove for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Spring Grove Police Chief Michael Niedzwiecki said officers arrived and found a crash involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle.
An initial investigation determined that a red 2013 Ford F-350 was traveling eastbound on Sunset Road.
The Ford was approaching the intersection of East Applewood Lane as a 2025 Yamaha YFZ-R7 motorcycle was traveling westbound on Sunset Road in the same area.
The Ford began turning left onto East Applewood Lane, at which time a collision occurred between the two vehicles.
The male rider was ejected from his motorcycle and officers reported he was unresponsive.
A medical helicopter was placed on standby but canceled after paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The McHenry County Coroner’s Office has not released the identity of the victim yet.
The driver of the Ford did not require medical treatment and was fully cooperative with investigators, Niedzwiecki said.
The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT), which is composed of members from the Cary, Harvard, Johnsburg, McHenry, Spring Grove, Richmond, and Woodstock police departments, was activated to conduct an investigation.
Sunset Road was shut down between Applewood Lane and Johnsburg Road for several hours during the investigation.
Niedzwiecki said there is no reason to suspect that either party was intoxicated but toxicology results are pending.
Niedzwiecki said additional information will be released following the conclusion of the MCAT investigation.
