No one was injured, but residents were displaced after a home undergoing construction caught on fire near Lake Villa Friday afternoon, fire officials said.

The Lake Villa Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4 p.m. Friday to the 37500 block of Columbus Avenue in unincorporated Lake Villa for a report of a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived and found an active fire from a one-story home that was under construction, Lake Villa Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Kevin Johnson said.

Crews pulled a hose line and quickly brought the fire under control within 5-10 minutes of the fire department’s arrival.

500-600 gallons of water were used in the fire attack, Johnson said.

The residents were not home at the time and the house is uninhabitable. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

Crews from the Antioch, Fox Lake, Greater Round Lake, Newport Township and Gurnee fire departments assisted at the scene.

The Waukegan and Mundelein fire departments briefly provided coverage for Lake Villa during the incident.
