An elderly man suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle outside near Niko’s Tavern in Woodstock Friday evening.
The Woodstock Police Department and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 7:39 p.m. Friday to Niko’s Red Mill Tavern, 1040 Lake Avenue, for a report of a crash with injuries.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Battalion Chief Zac Beatty said it was reported to be a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived to find an injured elderly man lying in the roadway.
Paramedics assessed him and determined he was responsive but suffering from life-threatening injuries, Beatty said.
A Mercyhealth REACT helicopter was requested due to the severity of the victim’s condition.
An ambulance transported the man to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock where the helicopter landed.
Beatty said the victim was transferred to the helicopter crew and flown to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital — Riverside in Rockford, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and did not report any injuries.
The Woodstock Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the cause of the crash.
