A firefighter was injured and residents were left displaced after a fire sent heavy flames out of a house in Wonder Lake late Sunday evening, fire officials said.
The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District responded around 11:23 p.m. Sunday to the 4600 block of East Wonder Lake Road in Wonder Lake for a report of a structure fire.
Wonder Lake Fire Chief Matt Yegge said responding fire crews were advised that everyone had evacuated the house after receiving a 911 call from the homeowner.
Firefighters arrived at the scene within six minutes to find a one-and-a-half-story home with flames and smoke visible from the roof.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the box alarm level, which brought area fire departments to the scene and staffed Wonder Lake fire stations.
Firefighters began performing an offensive attack on the fire by bringing hose lines into the home to extinguish the fire, Yegge said.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the upstairs and attic.
Firefighters performed a search of the building and found no victims or pets inside.
Yegge said a firefighter was evaluated at the scene for injuries but was not transported to the hospital.
The house was deemed uninhabitable and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
“We appreciate the efforts of all scene firefighters and change of quarter crews,” Yegge said.
The Salvation Army McHenry County Rehab Canteen also responded to the scene to provide refreshments to the firefighters.
The American Red Cross is assisting the homeowners who were displaced with alternative arrangements.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District.
