The sheriff’s office says an 18-year-old man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries after he was found at a bar near Round Lake and claimed he had been stabbed.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 8 p.m. Sunday to Fairfield Tap, 35480 North Fairfield Road in unincorporated Round Lake, for a report of a stabbing.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and met with the 18-year-old victim, who had a cut on his arm, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
He initially said he was “jumped” and stabbed with a broken bottle earlier at a bank in Round Lake Heights.
Video surveillance was reviewed and did not match the statement made by the victim, Covelli said.
The victim was seen earlier in the area of the Fairfield Tap on North Fairfield Road but then was seen walking home.
Video surveillance showed him walking back from his home toward the bar with injuries.
“There was no evidence located of a fight or any evidence to corroborate the victim’s account,” Covelli said.
The victim does have a history of being intoxicated and falling. His injuries were minor.
