A driver was transported to the hospital after they struck a fire hydrant, drove through a fence and crashed into the rear of an occupied house, causing damage, near Huntley.

The Huntley Fire Protection District and Hampshire Police Department responded around 7:19 p.m. Monday to the 2600 block of Hennig Road in Hampshire for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Fire crews arrived and reported finding a car in the backyard of a home.

Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Mike Pierce said a Dodge Challenger had crashed into a fire hydrant across the street.

The Dodge then traveled through a fence into the backyard of a home on the corner of Hennig Road and Cameron Drive.

The Dodge struck the rear of the single-family house next to the back door, causing a hole in the siding, Pierce said.

The home was occupied at the time but the residents were not near the impact area and were uninjured.

Pierce said the driver suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley.

The driver of the Dodge was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no other cars were involved in the crash.

A board-up company was called to shore up the damaged area and the Village of Hampshire Building Department was also notified.

The residents were not displaced and the home remains habitable, Pierce said.

The Hampshire Police Department was investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
