Officials are crediting a McHenry County sheriff’s canine who helped officers locate an 87-year-old man who went missing in a wooded area in Island Lake on Thursday.
The Island Lake Police Department responded just before 12 p.m. Thursday to the 3300 block of Carol Circle in Island Lake for a report of a missing person.
Police officials said an 87-year-old Island Lake man lost his way in a heavily wooded area near the residence.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Deputy John Wisniewski and Canine Kylo were called to the scene to assist in the search.
The K9/Drone Search and Rescue Strike Team was also activated to respond and assist in the search efforts.
Wisniewski, Kylo and Island Lake Police Department Officer Jackson began tracking the missing man for nearly a quarter-mile, police officials said.
They located him around 1 p.m. and found he was hot, tired and dehydrated. He was brought home safely.
The Wauconda Fire District responded to the scene and paramedics evaluated the found man.
“Thank you to everyone that helped make this a happy ending,” the Island Lake Police Department said, adding, “Good boy Kylo!”
