A woman in her 30s died after she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene before police arrived near a gas station on Grand Avenue in Waukegan Sunday evening.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 9:34 p.m. Sunday to the area of Grand Avenue and Jackson Street for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Emergency crews arrived and found a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle.
Lifesaving measures were performed by paramedics on the critically injured victim, who was reportedly crossing the street in front of the BP gas station.
An ambulance transported her to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan where she was pronounced dead.

The vehicle and driver involved have not been located as of Monday morning, Neal said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the hospital around 11 p.m. and took possession of the victim.
The coroner’s office has scheduled an autopsy on the victim, a 36-year-old woman, for Monday.
Her identity has not been released yet but will be following the autopsy and notification to next of kin.
Grand Avenue was completely shut down late Sunday evening as investigators worked at the scene, which was cordoned off by crime scene tape.
