A motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision on Milwaukee Avenue with an SUV that pulled out of a restaurant parking lot in Libertyville Sunday evening.
The Libertyville Fire Department and Libertyville Police Department responded around 5:44 p.m. Sunday to the McDonald’s, 1330 North Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire crews arrived and reported a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle with the motorcyclist down on the ground.
Libertyville Deputy Police Chief Matt Goze said an initial investigation showed that the motorcycle was traveling northbound in the curbside lane of Milwaukee Avenue.
An SUV was exiting the McDonald’s, which is located north of Winchester Road on the east side of Milwaukee Avenue.
The vehicle pulled out in front of the motorcycle, resulting in a collision.
The male motorcyclist was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening injuries, Goze said.
The occupants of the SUV were uninjured and declined transport to the hospital.
Goze said Milwaukee Avenue was shut down and traffic was diverted around the crash scene for several hours.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to the scene to conduct a crash investigation and reconstruction.
The road was shut down until around 9:30 p.m. An update was not immediately available on the motorcyclist’s condition as of Monday.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Libertyville Police Department and MCAT.
