The sheriff says a woman in her 60s accidentally crashed her SUV into the Beach Park Village Hall building while trying to park her car Saturday afternoon.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Beach Park Fire Department responded around 12:27 p.m. Saturday to the Beach Park Village Hall, 11270 West Wadsworth Road in Beach Park, for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Firefighters arrived and reported finding a car that had struck the village hall.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said a preliminary investigation shows a 2021 Toyota RAV4 was in the parking lot.
The driver, a 66-year-old Beach Park woman, was attempting to park the Toyota in one of the parking spaces in front of the building.
The woman inadvertently accelerated instead of braking, causing the Toyota to strike the building just west of the main entrance, Covelli said.
Covelli said the driver declined medical treatment at the scene. No one was reported to be inside the building.
A bench on the sidewalk was destroyed, the brick facade of the building was damaged and a window also appeared damaged.
The Village of Beach Park was notified and responded due to structural damage sustained by the building, Covelli said.
A flatbed tow truck with Lake County Towing responded and removed the Toyota from the scene.
