Fire officials say a man was injured and transported to the hospital after two WaveRunners crashed into each other on the Fox River in Fox River Grove Tuesday afternoon.

The Fox River Grove Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4:55 p.m. Tuesday to the 8700 block of Gardner Road in Fox River Grove for a report of a crash on the water.

Fox River Grove Fire Protection District Firefighter-Paramedic Mike Bristol said two WaveRunners collided on the Fox River where the river bends.

The occupants from the watercrafts did not require rescue and were already on shore when firefighters and paramedics arrived.

A medical helicopter was initially placed on standby but later canceled.

Both WaveRunners were occupied by the operators, who were the sole occupants, Bristol said.

One of the victims involved, an adult male, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

Bristol said the second subject involved declined transport to the hospital.

Neither operator was reported to be ejected in the crash.

Bristol said he was unsure how extensive the damage was to the watercrafts involved and he also said it was unclear how the collision occurred.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office both responded to investigate.
