Police arrested two suspects and recovered over $13,000 in stolen merchandise in connection with a multi-county retail theft spree following a traffic stop in Wauconda Tuesday afternoon.
The Wauconda Police Department coordinated a traffic stop on a vehicle around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on Route 12 near Bonner Road in Wauconda.
Wauconda Police Department Public Information Officer Heather Cognac said the stop involved a vehicle suspected in a string of retail thefts across Lake, McHenry, Boone, Will and Kane counties.
The vehicle, a white Ford Fusion, had just been involved in a theft when it was located near a Walgreens by the Island Lake Police Department.
A coordinated high-risk felony stop was conducted with assistance from both the Wauconda and Island Lake police departments, Cognac said.
Wauconda Police Canine Skye was deployed during the arrest to help ensure the safe apprehension of both suspects.
Cognac said two occupants, Donovan K. White, 30, and Isaiah D. Garrett, 27, were taken into custody without incident.
Stolen merchandise from various Walgreens stores valued at $13,584.99 was recovered during the stop.
Several police departments, including Lake in the Hills, Gurnee, Spring Grove, Geneva, Grayslake and Lake Villa, confirmed that Garrett and White were suspects in numerous thefts at Walgreens locations throughout the region.
Additional police agencies have indicated pending charges and arrest warrants, Cognac said.
The investigation remains active and the recovered vehicle is being further examined for evidence.
Garrett and White were charged with one count of possession of stolen property over $10,000, a Class 2 felony.
The two were transported to First Appearance Court at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan on Wednesday morning.
They were both released from custody with pre-trial conditions and given future court dates.
