A woman was seriously injured and a 5-year-old was uninjured after the two were ejected from an ATV that rolled over while traveling in a neighborhood in Lakemoor.

The Lakemoor Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 3:40 p.m. Friday to the 400 block of Grand Meadow Lane in Lakemoor for a report of a crash with injuries.

A 911 caller reported a woman had been ejected from an ATV and a child was also involved with minor injuries.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived and reported finding both victims down in the roadway.

A medical helicopter was initially placed on standby but later canceled.

Lakemoor Chief of Police David Anderson said officers learned a 35-year-old Lakemoor woman was operating an ATV on the roadway.

Her 5-year-old son was seated in front of her on the ATV as they were traveling down the street.

Witnesses told officers that the ATV began swerving on the roadway, resulting in the ATV rolling over.

Both riders were ejected from the ATV during the crash, Anderson said.

The 5-year-old boy was wearing a helmet and was uninjured. He was not transported to the hospital for treatment.

The woman suffered serious injuries but the extent of her injuries was unknown, Anderson said.

She was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry for treatment.

The driver was cited for unlawfully operating an all-terrain vehicle on the roadway and driving without insurance.

Anderson said there were no indications that alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.
