Firefighters had to extricate an injured driver who was heavily trapped in his work truck after a head-on crash with a school bus in Lincolnshire Wednesday morning.
The Long Grove Fire Protection District and Lincolnshire Police Department responded around 8:35 a.m. Wednesday to Aptakisic Road and Industrial Drive in Lincolnshire for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire crews were responding when the incident was upgraded after receiving reports that someone was trapped in the wreckage.
Long Grove Fire Protection District Kevin Biedzycki said the crash involved a school bus and a work truck.
The crash was head-on in the intersection and both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.
No children were on the bus, which sustained front-end damage. The work truck was totaled and sustained heavy damage, Biedzycki said.
Firefighters began extrication efforts on the driver of the worker truck, who was injured and heavily trapped.
Biedzycki said it took firefighters approximately 20 minutes to free the adult male driver of the truck.
The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and Buffalo Grove fire departments were called to assist in the efforts.
The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in unknown condition, Biedzycki said. He was conscious and breathing at the scene.
The driver of the school bus was uninjured and declined transport to the hospital.
Biedzycki said Aptakisic Road was shut down in both directions at the intersection during the incident.
Ernie’s Wrecker Service responded with a heavy wrecker and flatbed and towed both vehicles due to the extent of damage they sustained.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known and is being investigated by the Lincolnshire Police Department.
