A motorcyclist remains in critical condition at an area hospital after having a leg severed during a serious motorcycle crash in Wadsworth Friday afternoon, authorities said.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Route 173 east of Route 41 in Wadsworth for a car versus motorcycle traffic crash at about 1:10 p.m. Friday, Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said.
Deputies arriving on scene found the motorcycle operator had sustained critical injuries and that good Samaritans utilized a belt to apply a tourniquet to the leg of the motorcycle operator, Covelli said.
Covelli said the preliminary investigation shows a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 68-year-old man of Wadsworth, was traveling westbound on Route 173, and a Nissan Rogue, driven by a 38-year-old woman of Muskego, Wisconsin, was traveling eastbound on Route 173.
The driver of the Nissan made a left turn into the Van Patton Woods Forest Preserve directly in the path of the motorcycle, Covelli said.
The motorcycle struck the side of the Nissan, and the operator of the motorcycle was thrown off, Covelli said.
The left leg of the motorcyclist was severed during the impact, Covelli said.
The operator of the motorcycle was taken to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition, Covelli said.
