A fugitive wanted in Lake County as well as in Michigan on charges of home invasion and burglary was captured by a sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the U.S. Marshals.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday the arrest of 50-year-old Sandy Baker, who was wanted for home invasion and burglary.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit and U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Task Force arrested Baker following an operation to take him into custody.
Task force officers set up surveillance on September 26 at the Clayton Motel, 7240 South Harlem Avenue in Bridgeview, the sheriff’s office said.
Officers learned that Baker was possibly staying at the motel. He was wanted in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, for home invasion and in Lake County for burglary.
The Lake County charge stems from a residential burglary that occurred on February 3 in unincorporated Lake County. He was charged in the offense in May and an arrest warrant was issued.
Officers saw a man fitting Baker’s description around 10:30 a.m. who was getting into a white Chevrolet SUV in the motel parking lot, the sheriff’s office said.
Officers positively identified the man as Baker and took him into custody.
A judge ordered Baker detained in the Cook County Jail during a court hearing on September 27.
Baker was transferred to Lake County and he appeared in Lake County Circuit Court on Saturday morning for a First Appearance Court hearing.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain him pending trial and he is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing on Monday afternoon.
