No injuries were reported after an SUV towing a boat rolled into a lake, becoming fully submerged in the water, while at a beach boat ramp in Libertyville.
The Libertyville Fire Department and Libertyville Police Department responded around 6:05 p.m. last Thursday to Lake Minear Beach, 600 West Oak Spring Road in Libertyville, for a report of a water rescue.
Fire crews arrived and found a Toyota SUV fully submerged in the water.
The incident was initially dispatched as a water rescue, prompting the response of fire departments throughout the area with divers and boats.
Fire crews reported that no occupants were in the water upon their arrival. No injuries were reported.
Police officials confirmed no one was in need of a rescue and it was instead an “unfortunate mishap.”
The unoccupied car had a boat in tow when the SUV rolled into the lake, police officials said.
Ernie’s Wrecker Service responded to the scene with a heavy wrecker and removed the vehicle and trailer from the water around 7:20 p.m.
A flatbed tow truck also responded and towed the Toyota away from the scene.
