A 44-year-old man was arrested after authorities say a police canine search led to the discovery of cocaine and methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Fox Lake.
Fox Lake Police Department Sgt. Rick Howell said a Fox Lake police officer conducted a traffic stop on September 30 in the 500 block of Rollins Road.
The vehicle, a white Honda Accord, was driven by Shane C. Perry, 44, of Elgin, was accused of disregarding a stop sign. He was the sole occupant.
The officer smelled the odor of fresh cannabis coming from the vehicle and observed loose cannabis in the vehicle, Howell said.
Round Lake Park Police Department Canine Gunny was called to the scene and a further investigation was conducted.
Perry and the vehicle were searched. Officers found he had four plastic baggies containing narcotics on his person.
Howell said the baggies contained approximately 16 grams of methamphetamine and approximately 18 grams of cocaine.
A plastic baggie containing approximately 18 grams of cannabis was found in the car.
A plastic bottle of THC syrup and a digital scale were also discovered in the vehicle, Howell said.
Perry was arrested and transported to the Fox Lake Police Department where he was processed and charged.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges of manufacturing or delivery of 15-100 grams of cocaine, methamphetamine delivery of 15-100 grams, possession of 15-100 grams of methamphetamine and possession of 15-100 grams of cocaine.
Perry was also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful use of cannabis by a driver, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and disregarding a stop sign.
Perry was transported to the Lake County Courthouse for a First Appearance Court hearing and the state’s attorney’s office filed a petition to detain him, which was granted by a judge following a detention hearing.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on October 22 for a preliminary hearing.
