Police are searching for two suspects who robbed a victim at knifepoint for his bicycle near a church and school in Crystal Lake Wednesday evening.
The Crystal Lake Police Department responded around 6:01 p.m. Wednesday to the area of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and School, 300 Pathway Court in Crystal Lake, for a report of a robbery.
The victim, a 50-year-old man, reported he was approached by two adult male suspects approximately 45 minutes earlier, according to Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Richard Neumann.
The suspects demanded the victim’s bicycle after approaching him but the victim refused.
Neumann said one of the suspects displayed a knife, which caused the victim to comply with the demand.
The victim, who was in fear for his life, ran away after handing over the bicycle.
The first suspect was described as a male white, in his 30s, approximately 5-foot-11, weighing approximately 135-140 pounds, with short curly blond hair.
He was wearing a long-sleeve Nike athletic shirt and blue jeans.
The second suspect, who drew the knife, was described as a male Hispanic, in his 30s, approximately 5-foot-4, weighing approximately 120 pounds, with jet black hair that was “slicked back.”
He was wearing a gray hoodie-style sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The stolen bicycle was described only as a “red mountain bike” with an estimated value of $200, Neumann said.
Neumann said no injuries were reported and the 45-minute delay in reporting the incident was due to the victim not having a cell phone.
The robbery remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department.
