A driver is facing charges after police say he traveled into oncoming traffic where his car struck a light pole and crashed through a brick sign, causing significant damage, on Randall Road in Lake in the Hills.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 2:38 p.m. on October 2 to Randall Road and Commercial Drive in Lake in the Hills for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Fire crews arrived and reported a single-vehicle crash with heavy damage involving a sign.

Lake in the Hills Police Department Public Information Officer Amanda Johnson said that a Buick Encore was traveling northbound on Randall Road.

The Buick, driven by Bryant A. Cox, 40, of Carpentersville, traveled north of Algonquin Road and was in the 200 block of Randall Road.

The Buick veered west — south of the intersection of Commercial Drive — and crossed over the raised median, Johnson said.

The Buick drove across all southbound lanes of traffic where it struck a light pole.

Johnson said the Buick continued to travel westbound off the roadway and struck a brick sign located in front of Bank of America, 240 North Randall Road.

Paramedics evaluated Cox and he refused transport to the hospital. There were no passengers in the car.

Cox was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis by driver, driving too fast for conditions, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, transportation or possession of open alcohol by driver, expired registration and unlawful possession of fireworks.

The Buick, which sustained significant damage to its front end and driver’s side, was towed from the scene.
