A man was shot twice in Fox Lake and found seeking help in Round Lake Beach, police said, adding that a SWAT team has carried out search warrants as part of the active investigation.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 2:30 p.m. Thursday to Advocate Condell Immediate Care Center, 2 East Rollins Road in Round Lake Beach.
Officers and paramedics arrived to find a male victim who had been shot. Police said it is unclear if the victim drove himself to the acute care center or if someone else did.
Paramedics transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.
Fox Lake Police Department Sgt. Rick Howell said his department was notified of the incident around 3 p.m. after it was learned that the shooting occurred in Fox Lake.
A preliminary investigation showed that the shooting occurred in the 300 block of Route 59 in Fox Lake, which is located across from the police station at an apartment complex.
The victim, a 30-year-old Round Lake Heights man, and a suspect were involved in a verbal altercation before parting ways, Howell said.
The victim was heading toward his vehicle when he was again confronted by the offender.
The suspect shot the victim twice in the leg, Howell said. He was receiving treatment at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and is stabilized.

Police officers responded to the hospital and the location of the incident.
The crime scene was processed by investigators and multiple items of evidence were collected, including five spent .45 caliber shell casings, Howell said.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation and search warrants were approved by a Lake County judge.
The warrants included a residence and an associated vehicle tied to the investigation.
The Fox Lake Police Department and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System Emergency Services Team (NIPAS EST) served the warrants at an undisclosed location in Fox Lake during the early morning hours on Friday.
Howell said additional items of evidence were collected and a person of interest was detained.
The investigation remains ongoing with potential charges pending review by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
