An elderly woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after she was struck by an SUV while walking in Buffalo Grove Friday morning, authorities said.
The Buffalo Grove Police Department and Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 11:55 a.m. Friday to the area of Dundee Road and Lake Boulevard for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
A 911 caller reported a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and was bleeding.
Officers arrived and reported the victim was barely breathing.
The crash involved a 2021 BMW X5 SUV and occurred in the eastbound lanes of Dundee Road at Lake Boulevard in front of the Cambridge On The Lake condominium complex.
Police officials said officers immediately began rendering aid to the pedestrian, an 80-year-old Wheeling woman.
The woman was transported by ambulance to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in critical condition.
The driver of the BMW remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The driver did not suffer any apparent injuries, police officials said.
Dundee Road was shut down between Buffalo Grove Road and Lake Boulevard and remained closed as of 3 p.m. Friday.
Members of the Buffalo Grove Police Department’s Traffic Unit and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team responded to conduct a crash investigation.
No citations or charges have been issued so far, police officials said.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
