A teenager from Round Lake Beach died after he was shot at a birthday party at a home in Ingleside late Friday evening, the sheriff’s office said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:15 p.m. Friday to the 35700 block of North Wilson Road in Ingleside for a report of a shooting.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies responding to reports of shots fired encountered a person shot in the driveway.
The 19-year-old man was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Sheriff’s deputies attempted lifesaving efforts until the Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded and took over lifesaving efforts, Covelli said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified.
A preliminary investigation shows the victim was at the residence attending a birthday party, Covelli said.
A group arrived at the party and engaged in an argument with a group of partygoers.
Covelli said the argumentative group left and got into their vehicles.
They drove by the residence and began shooting, striking the 19-year-old who was in the driveway. The group fled from the scene.
Covelli said it is unclear yet whether the victim was involved in the argument.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy on the victim for Tuesday morning. They said it appears he suffered a single gunshot wound.
The teen’s identity will not be released until his family has been notified and the autopsy has been completed.
The homicide remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.
