Fernando Contreras-Galvan, 33, of McHenry.

A 33-year-old man is facing felony charges after he allegedly threatened to go to Mexico and come back before hunting down and killing police officers in McHenry.

Fernando Contreras-Galvan, 33, of McHenry, was charged with threatening a public official, a Class 3 felony, and two counts of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Contreras-Galvan caused bodily harm to a family or household member around 10:45 p.m. on October 4 in McHenry.

Contreras-Galvan physically attacked the victim, causing small cuts to the man’s forehead and chin, the complaint said.

The complaint said Contreras-Galvan threw punches and attempted to grab at the victim’s face, arms and legs.

The McHenry Police Department responded to the scene and arrested Contreras-Galvan for the domestic battery.

The complaint said Contreras-Galvan conveyed threats directly and indirectly to three officers.

The complaint said Contreras-Galvan made statements to them that he would be going to Mexico and returning to the United States to take officers out.

Contreras-Galvan, as he was being placed into a squad car, told the officers he was going to kill them, the complaint said.

Officers were then transporting him to the police station when he began making statements in Spanish stating that once he was released, he was going to grab a gun and kill everyone at the police department, the complaint said.

Contreras-Galvan also allegedly said, while making the threat, that he did not care what happened to him.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Contreras-Galvan pending trial, arguing he poses a danger to the community.

McHenry County Judge Cynthia Lamb granted the petition and ordered Contreras-Galvan held in the McHenry County Jail, saying there “is no condition of release that will prevent the defendant from following through on his threats to kill the officers. ”

“The defendant made several direct threats to kill the officers on scene and had no regard for himself. He also stated plans of obtaining a firearm and going to the police department to kill the officers,” Lamb said.

“The defendant caused bodily harm to his domestic victim by a physical attack causing injuries to his face, neck, arms and knee while acting belligerent,” the judge added.

Contreras-Galvan is scheduled to appear in court again on October 22 for a status of preliminary hearing.
