The sheriff’s office says an SUV blew a stop sign and caused a crash with a semi-truck that required a woman to be flown to the hospital with serious injuries near Woodstock.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:06 p.m. Monday to the intersection of Route 47 and Charles Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Firefighters arrived and found a two-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck and a mid-size SUV, according to Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha.

Two people were inside the SUV — an adult male and an adult female.

The woman was pinned inside the vehicle and required extrication to free her, Vucha said.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested due to the severity of her injuries and landed near the scene.

Vucha said the male driver of the SUV was evaluated at the scene by paramedics but was not transported to the hospital. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.

The roadway north of the intersection was closed in both directions during the duration of the incident while emergency crews worked at the scene.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Communication Specialist Emily Matusek-Baker said the SUV was traveling southbound on Route 47 when it failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Charles Road.

The intersection is controlled by a four-way stop sign.

The SUV collided with the right side of a semi-trailer, causing the SUV to spin and exit the roadway, Matusek-Baker said. It is unknown yet whether any citations have been issued.

Around 90 minutes later, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Hartland Road and Route 14 in unincorporated Woodstock for a separate crash with injuries.

Vucha said fire crews arrived to find a small sedan and a semi-truck involved.

The passenger vehicle had sustained heavy damage in the collision and was found in the roadway.

The semi-truck was located just west of the intersection in a ditch, Vucha said.

Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their vehicles, were evaluated at the scene and both were transported to local hospitals.

They both suffered minor to moderate injuries that were considered non-life-threatening.

Westbound Route 14 was shut down for over an hour while first responders operated at the scene, Vucha said.
