Firefighters rescued a dog and extinguished a fire that caused $250,000 in damage to a house, leaving the residents displaced, in Wauconda Wednesday evening.
The Wauconda Fire District responded around 6:23 p.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of Highland Avenue in Wauconda for a report of a structure fire.
Multiple people called 911 to report that a house was on fire, according to Wauconda Fire Chief Curt Hanselman.
Wauconda Fire District Battalion Chief Scott Schrayer said firefighters arrived on the scene within three minutes.
Fire crews reported finding flames showing from a rear bedroom of a single-family ranch house.
Hanselman said firefighters had water on the fire within three minutes of arriving.
They conducted a transitional attack on the fire by first working to extinguish it from the outside before moving inside to fully extinguish it.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes.
The residence sustained significant fire and smoke damage throughout, leading to the home being deemed uninhabitable, Schrayer said.
A dog was rescued from the home. No injuries were reported to any residents or firefighters.
One resident was home at the time of the fire and was able to self-evacuate, Hanselman said.
The Countryside, Grayslake, Lake Zurich, Round Lake, Fox Lake and Nunda Rural fire departments assisted at the scene.
The Cary Fire Protection District and Barrington Fire Department covered Wauconda fire stations during the incident.
Schrayer said the damage was estimated at $250,000 and the cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature but remains under investigation.
