A 21-year-old man was transported to a trauma center after he was reportedly ejected from his pickup truck that rolled over near Algonquin, authorities said.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and Kane County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4:58 p.m. Friday to the area of Route 31 and Longmeadow Parkway in unincorporated Algonquin for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire crews arrived at the scene and reported the crash involved a single vehicle, which occurred east of Route 31 on Longmeadow Parkway near the Brunner Family Forest Preserve.
Firefighters at the scene reported the driver had been ejected through the window of the truck, which was significantly damaged.
A medical helicopter was placed on standby but ultimately canceled.
Kane County Undersheriff Amy Johnson said a preliminary investigation shows the driver of the pickup truck lost control and crashed into the center median.
The truck went off the eastbound lanes to the south side and rolled over onto a grassy embankment, coming to rest on its side.
Paramedics initially transported the driver, a 21-year-old Elgin man, to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
He was later transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, which is a Level 1 trauma center, for further treatment.
He was listed in stable condition, Johnson said, adding that additional medical information in regard to his injuries is being withheld.
Johnson said the man was the sole occupant of the Chevrolet Silverado and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
One eastbound lane on Longmeadow Parkway was shut down until a tow truck responded and removed the vehicle from off the roadway.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no citations or charges have been announced.
