Animal control is seeking help in locating the owner of two goats that were found wandering near Marengo as officials also search for the owners of several found horses in McHenry County.
The McHenry County Department of Health said Friday that goats were found in Coral Township outside of Marengo.
The two stray goats were picked up on Thursday near the intersection of Getty Road and Hampshire Road in between Marengo and Hampshire.
They are currently being housed at the McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center in Crystal Lake.
The stray hold for the goats will end at 4:30 p.m. on October 27.
The owner of the animals or anyone who knows the owner is asked to contact animal control at 815-459-6222 as soon as possible.
The incident was the third involving loose animals being found in the county in a week span.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:40 a.m. Monday to the 3100 block of Vermont Road in unincorporated Woodstock for an animal complaint.
A resident reported she found two horses wandering near her home, south of Secor Road, according to police radio traffic.
The woman said the two horses were contained on her property but she could not keep them.
Dispatchers checked addresses in the area for prior calls involving horses and did not find any.
Deputies also checked properties in the area and no one was aware of who the horses belonged to.
The sheriff’s office issued an alert around 2 a.m. Monday asking for the community’s help in locating the owners.
The two mares are roughly three to five years old. One of them is black and the other is buckskin.
A photo of the horses was not immediately available. The sheriff’s office said the horses were being housed by a citizen in the area until authorities can locate the owners.
The McHenry County Department of Health last week said they were also searching for the owner of a white male horse that was found running loose between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. on October 9.
The horse was found near Route 176 and Millstream Road in unincorporated Marengo.
The horse is currently being housed at a private farm but the stray hold will end at the close of business on October 20, the health department said.
The owners of the found horses are asked to call the McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center at 815-459-6222 as soon as possible.
