A football game between Crystal Lake’s Prairie Ridge High School and Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville was evacuated and delayed following a shooting nearby.

The Carpentersville Police Department said in a statement around 9:30 p.m. Friday that the Dundee-Crown High School football field was evacuated.

Dundee-Crown was playing a varsity football game against Prairie Ridge High School from Crystal Lake.

Police said the game was evacuated after shots were fired nearby at the Fox View Apartments.

The apartment complex is located directly to the west of the football field.

It was unclear exactly how close the shooting occurred to the football game.

Officers found that a vehicle had been struck by gunfire after multiple shots had been fired during the incident.

There was no immediate indication of anyone being injured.

Police are investigating the situation and no arrests have been announced as of Sunday.

The game was suspended and rescheduled for Saturday morning at 11 a.m., according to Dundee-Crown Athletics.

The school said the game was suspended at halftime and Prairie Ridge was leading the game with 27 points against Dundee-Crown, which had seven points.

The game resumed on Saturday and the school said that there was no ongoing safety concern at that time.

“Heightened security measures will be in place out of an abundance of caution to help ensure a safe and orderly environment for all attendees,” Dundee-Crown Athletics said.

The Wolves won the game with 41 points against the Chargers, who had scored 15 points.
