A heavy police presence was reported and officers detained one person while investigating a road rage incident involving a person armed with a gun in Vernon Hills.
The Vernon Hills Police Department responded around 3:30 p.m. last Monday to the area of Townline Road and Milwaukee Avenue in Vernon Hills.
Vernon Hills Deputy Police Chief Shannon Holubetz said a motorist reported they were the victim of a road rage incident.
The incident occurred west of the intersection along Townline Road.
A driver brandished a gun at the victim and fled the scene before officers arrived, Holubetz said.
Officers located a possible suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at Milwaukee Avenue and Hollister Drive in Libertyville.
The dark-colored Dodge Challenger pulled over onto Hollister Drive and a heavy police response occurred.
Officers conducted a high-risk stop on the suspect due to the involvement of a gun.
Officers, who were equipped with a shield, ordered the driver out of the Dodge and had him walk backwards to the squad cars.
They took him into custody and eventually he was released following his brief detainment, Holubetz said.
Holubetz declined to say whether officers recovered any guns from the vehicle or the subject.
No charges have been filed as of Monday and the case remains under investigation.
