Police say they have cited a driver who claimed a muscle cramp caused an unusual crash that resulted in a parked car rolling over through the garage door of a house in Wonder Lake.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and Wonder Lake Police Department responded around 9:01 a.m. Friday to the 9800 block of Creekside Drive in Wonder Lake for a report of a vehicle crash with possible injuries.

Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said fire crews arrived and located a two-vehicle crash.

Both cars came to rest in the driveway of a two-story residential home.

First responders learned that a Jeep, driven by an elderly man, had crashed into a parked vehicle in the driveway, Vucha said.

The impact caused the parked car to roll over and through the garage door of the home.

The parked car came to rest on its passenger side and was partially inside the garage.

The driver was out of the Jeep upon the arrival of the fire department and was uninjured in the crash.

The home was occupied at the time but no injuries were reported by the occupants, Vucha said.

Firefighters secured the vehicles and confirmed that no structural damage was sustained to the residence.

The fire department remained on the scene for approximately 45 minutes before returning to service.

Wonder Lake Police Chief Kyle Mandernack said that the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee told officers he was backing eastbound on Creekside Drive.

He experienced a “severe leg cramp” that caused him to accelerate rapidly.

The rapid acceleration caused the Jeep to enter a residential property where it struck the parked car, resulting in the parked car rolling over, Mandernack said.

The parked car also struck the garage door of the home’s attached garage, causing the garage door to collapse on another parked car that was inside the garage.

Mandernack said the driver was wearing his seatbelt and alcohol is not suspected as being a factor.

The driver, a 70-year-old Woodstock man, was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
