The fire department rescued a worker who became injured on top of the roof of an under-construction house in a new neighborhood development outside of Huntley.

The Huntley Fire Protection District and Prairie Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 1:25 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Route 47 and Big Timber Road for a report of an injured person.

Huntley Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said it was reported to be a traumatic injury at a construction site in a new residential development east of Route 47 and south of Big Timber Road.

“This area marks the southernmost portion of Huntley’s district and is currently experiencing rapid growth,” Vucha said.

Firefighters arrived at the scene, located off of Providence Road and Big Timber Road, and found that a roofing contractor had suffered a leg injury while working atop a home.

The worker was unable to climb down safely, Vucha said. Huntley’s ladder truck was dispatched to the scene and set up directly in front of the under-construction home.

Firefighters used the tower ladder platform to reach the victim on the roof, safely secure him and lower him to the ground.

An awaiting ambulance transported him to a local hospital for further care.

“While ladder trucks are often associated with fire suppression efforts, this incident serves as a perfect example of how they are also critical tools for high-angle rescues and technical operations,” Vucha said.

“Their versatility allows crews to access difficult or elevated areas quickly and safely, often making a significant difference in patient outcomes,” he added.

The Huntley Fire Protection District said they appreciate the assistance from the Pingree Grove Fire Protection District at the scene.
