Firefighters had to remove a driver who was left injured and stuck inside a minivan that crashed into a semi-tractor-trailer truck on Route 60 in Lake Forest.
The Lake Forest Fire Department and Lake Forest Police Department responded around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to the area of Route 60 and Route 43, also known as Waukegan Road, for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Firefighters arrived and found a two-vehicle crash involving a minivan and a semi-tractor-trailer truck, according to Lake Forest Deputy Fire Chief Chris Roberts.
The incident occurred in the westbound lanes, with the minivan coming to rest in the intersection and the semi-truck coming to rest just west of the intersection.
Roberts said the driver of the minivan was still inside the car when emergency crews arrived.
The vehicle’s driver’s side and passenger side doors were locked and prevented immediate access.
Firefighters were able to make entry into the vehicle through the driver’s door and remove the victim from the minivan, Roberts said.
The driver, who was the sole occupant, was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Lake Forest.
The driver of the minivan suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Roberts said. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.
The incident resulted in heavy traffic delays and shut down westbound Route 60 and southbound Waukegan Road.
The cause of the crash was being investigated by the Lake Forest Police Department.
