Residents were able to escape after a fire broke out and caused significant damage to their house in Lake in the Hills early Monday morning, fire officials said.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded around 1:35 a.m. Monday to the 800 block of Willow Street in Lake in the Hills.
Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District Chief John Knebl said the incident was initially dispatched as an inside smoke investigation in a single-family home.
Fire crews arrived in under three minutes and found smoke showing from the two-story residence.
The call was upgraded to a Working Fire response to bring additional resources to the scene.
Knebl said all of the occupants in the home had safely evacuated prior to the fire department arriving.
Firefighters entered the home and located the fire in an upstairs bathroom.
Knebl said the blaze was brought under control within 10 minutes and firefighters remained on the scene for overhaul operations to extinguish hotspots and to assist with the investigation.
The home sustained significant fire and smoke damage and has been deemed uninhabitable, Knebl said.
The Lake in the Hills Police Department, Huntley Fire Protection District, Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department, Cary Fire Protection District and Fox River Grove Fire Protection District assisted at the scene.
Knebl said a damage estimate has not been determined.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District.
