A 30-year-old man who was shot twice in Fox Lake and found seeking help in Round Lake Beach earlier this month has been arrested on felony gun and drug charges, police said.

The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 2:30 p.m. on October 9 to Advocate Condell Immediate Care Center, 2 East Rollins Road in Round Lake Beach.

Officers and paramedics arrived to find a male victim who had been shot.

Police said it is unclear if the victim drove himself to the acute care center or if someone else did.

A preliminary investigation showed that the shooting occurred in the 300 block of Route 59 in Fox Lake, which is located across from the police station at an apartment complex.

The victim, later identified as Delorian A. Banks, 30, of Round Lake Heights, and a suspect were involved in a verbal altercation before parting ways, Howell said.

Banks was heading toward his vehicle when he was again confronted by the offender.

The suspect shot Banks twice in the leg, Howell said. He received treatment at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police officers responded to the hospital and the location of the incident.

The crime scene was processed by investigators and multiple items of evidence were collected, including five spent .45 caliber shell casings, Howell said.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation and search warrants were approved by a Lake County judge.

The warrants included a residence and an associated vehicle tied to the investigation.

The Fox Lake Police Department and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System Emergency Services Team (NIPAS EST) served the warrants at an undisclosed location in Fox Lake during the early morning hours on October 10.

Howell said additional items of evidence were collected and a person of interest was detained but later released.

In an update on Tuesday, Howell said the investigation remains ongoing but multiple residences and vehicles have been searched with numerous items of evidence collected.

The evidence includes narcotics, shell casings and a firearm. The gun and a large amount of narcotics were discovered inside Banks’ vehicle.
