A Harvard City Alderwoman and business owner who died earlier this week is being remembered as an amazing mother, grandmother, and part of one of the first Latino families to settle in the area.
Rosa Maribel Luna, 65, of Harvard, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on Sunday, her obituary from Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home said.
Luna had been suffering from an unspecified illness for a few months before her death on Sunday.
Her obituary says Rosa was born in Eagle Pass, Texas, and was the daughter of Vicente and Maria Garza.
She was named a Harvard alderwoman in 2021, where she enjoyed serving her community, the obituary says.
She was also a business owner and insurance agent, and was deeply proud of the business she built, the obituary said.
The Northwest Herald said Luna moved to the area at age 14, and her family was one of the first Latino families to settle in the Harvard area.
Rosa is described as a loving mother who became overjoyed when she became a grandmother. She also treasured the time spent with her grandchildren, the obituary says.
Visitation for the councilwoman will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL 60033.
Additional gathering time will be held from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, with a memorial service to follow at The Starline Factory in the Helm Room, 300 W. Front St., Harvard, IL 60033.
