Power was knocked out to a portion of Route 134 in Round Lake Park just before midnight on Wednesday after a juvenile driver fell asleep and hit a power pole, officials said.
The Round Lake Park Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around midnight on Wednesday to the 200 block of East Main Street in Round Lake Park for a single-vehicle crash into a utility pole.
Round Lake Park Police Chief Daniel Burch said a juvenile driver fell asleep while driving home and drove into a pole.
The crash caused a power outage in the area and a transformer to catch on fire.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle without injuries, Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Tony Carraro said.
No other injuries were reported.
ComEd was immediately requested to the scene and tended to the downed power lines before firefighters and police officers moved up to the vehicle, which was a pickup truck.
Firefighters also checked on businesses and homes next to where the crash occurred.
Route 134 between Route 120 and Greenwood Drive was shut down while responders worked to secure the scene.
The juvenile was cited for a graduated license violation and improper lane usage, Burch said.
The juvenile was not suspected of being impaired, Burch added.
