Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of a blaze that broke out at a multi-unit home in Long Grove Friday night, officials said.

Battalion Chief John Jaworski of the Long Grove Fire Department said firefighters were called to the 1100 block of Route 53 for a reported structure fire at 8:10 p.m. Friday.

He said crews did not see any fire but smelled smoke when they arrived at the scene four minutes later.

Jaworski said the residents had evacuated the building prior to firefighters arriving at the location.

He added that renovations to the structure to separate the one building into two individual living units.

Firefighters could see smoke when entering one of the units, Jaworski said.

The fire became visible when crews gained access to the attic.

The fire was quickly extinguished without any injuries to firefighters, Jawoski said.

He said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

He said the power to the unit with the fire was turned off because of the blaze, and that unit was deemed uninhabitable.

The secondary living unit did not receive any damage and remained habitable.

Fire departments from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and Buffalo Grove assisted Long Grove Fire at the scene, Jaworski said.
