A suspect was taken into custody after he reported he beat his mother, who was found by officers unresponsive before being pronounced dead, in Park City Saturday morning.
The Park City Police Department responded around 10 a.m. Saturday to the 300 block of Betty Street in Park City for a report of a well-being check.
Officers were called to check the well-being of a man who was outside in a residential area causing a disturbance, a source told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
The man told officers he had harmed his mother inside their home.
The source said officers entered the residence in the 300 block of Betty Street and found the woman unresponsive.
The Gurnee Fire Department was called to the scene and paramedics began performing lifesaving measures.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office said the victim was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she was pronounced dead in the emergency room.
Officers arrested the male suspect and charges are pending for murder.
The coroner’s office said the victim was a 66-year-old Park City woman. Her identity is being temporarily withheld.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday morning. A cause and manner of death has not been ruled yet.
The coroner’s office said it expects to release her identity and autopsy results later on Monday.
The Park City Police Department has not released information on the case as of Monday and attempts to reach the department went unanswered.
