A man died after he was rushed to the hospital following a crash where a vehicle struck him as he tried crossing the road in Zion Monday evening, authorities said.

The Zion Fire Rescue Department and Zion Police Department 5:46 p.m. Monday to the area of 33rd Street and Sheridan Road in Zion for a vehicle crash with injuries.

First responders arrived and found a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The man was reportedly attempting to cross the intersection when he was struck by the vehicle.

Officers who were first on scene began performing CPR on the victim, who was unconscious and not breathing, according to fire department radio traffic.

Paramedics took over lifesaving measures and rushed the victim to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office said the victim, a Beach Park man in his 50s, was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Tuesday on the man, whose identity is being withheld temporarily.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to conduct the crash reconstruction and investigation.

Officers shut down Sheridan Road between 31st Street and 33rd Street while investigators worked at the scene.

The Zion Police Department has not released information on the case as of Tuesday afternoon.

It is unclear if the driver remained at the scene or if any charges have been filed.
