No injuries were reported to any humans or animals after a patron accidentally crashed a vehicle into the building at the McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center in Crystal Lake.
The Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 11:54 a.m. Monday to the area of Route 14 and West Woodstock Street for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Police arrived and reported a car that struck the building at the McHenry County Animal Control & Adoption Center, 100 North Virginia Street.
Officers reported the driver had possible minor injuries to their chest from the airbag.
McHenry County Department of Health Public Information Officer Nick Kubiak said the driver, who was a patron of the animal control and adoption center, accidentally struck a support pillar.
The driver reported pressing the accelerator instead of the brake while parking in a spot.
They also reported that they were driving a new vehicle they were not yet accustomed to, Kubiak said.
The area that was damaged was part of a new buildout and the space behind the wall was an unfinished storage area still under construction.
No one inside the business was injured and no animals were harmed, Kubiak said.
Paramedics evaluated the driver and they declined transport to the hospital.
“The driver was understandably shaken but unhurt and was able to complete their visit with Animal Control before leaving,” Kubiak said.
It is unclear if the police issued any citations. The Crystal Lake Building Department was notified of the incident.
