A man in his 60s was transported to a trauma center after he accidentally shot himself during a training exercise at a gun range in Marengo, authorities said.
The Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts and Marengo Police Department responded around 7:16 p.m. Wednesday to D5 Ranges Marengo, 131 East Prairie Street in Marengo, for a report of a person shot.
Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said it was reported that a patron at the business was shot in the leg.
An adult male victim was transported by ambulance to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
His injuries were non-life-threatening at the time of transport, Vucha said.
Vucha said the incident appears to have been accidental and the Marengo Police Department was investigating.
Marengo Police Department Sergeant Andrew Kjellgren said the discharge occurred during a regularly scheduled training exercise.
A citizen patron was struck in the thigh by the bullet after it was unintentionally discharged from his own pistol while preparing for the drill, Kjellgren said.
The victim, a male in his mid-60s, will not be charged, Kjellgren added.
D5 Ranges Marengo features an 18,000 square foot showcase gun range and a 14,000 square foot retail store.
