Multiple electrical poles and live power lines fell down, causing a complete shutdown of a stretch of Rollins Road in Round Lake Heights and Round Lake Beach, Tuesday afternoon.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Heights Police Department responded around 12:36 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Rollins Road and Fairfield Road in Round Lake Heights for a report of wires down.
Fire crews arrived and reported finding multiple electrical poles that were down.
They shut down the eastbound lanes of traffic on Rollins Road and requested that police shut down the westbound lanes.
First responders closed Rollins Road from Fairfield Road to Lotus Drive, which spans from Round Lake Heights into Round Lake Beach, police officials said.
Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Jay VandeBerg said four electrical poles came down and ComEd was called to the scene.
No injuries were reported and the fire department helped provide traffic control and stood by while ComEd worked at the scene, VandeBerg said.
VandeBerg said it is unknown what caused the poles and wires to come down. There were no reports of any vehicle crashes.
A witness told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that he saw a pole snap at ground level at Rollins Road and Lake Shore Drive.
He was on the phone with 911 when he saw three more break. Residents reported high winds in the area at the time.
ComEd repaired the power poles and the roadway was reopened by around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
