A SWAT team was deployed as investigators carried out a search warrant at a home in North Chicago Tuesday morning as part of an ongoing murder investigation.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8 a.m. Tuesday to the 1800 block of Glenn Drive in North Chicago to conduct a search warrant.
The warrant was to search for evidence in an ongoing investigation, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team responded to assist with the warrant.
The sheriff’s office’s Criminal Investigations Division was leading the investigation.
Officers were on the scene, in the area of 18th Street and Glenn Drive, for approximately an hour.
Covelli said the matter is not immigration related and there is no threat to the community.
No arrests have been made as a result of the Tuesday operation and Covelli declined to release further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
The warrant is connected to the investigation into the murder of Oscar Ochoa-Tello, 46, of Beach Park.
Ochoa-Tello was shot just outside of his home in the 38400 block of North Sheridan Road in Beach Park around 5:20 a.m. Wednesday.
Detectives learned Ochoa-Tello was sitting inside his vehicle while it was warming up.
The man, who was about to leave for work, was shot multiple times. A relative of Ochoa-Tello drove him to Vista Medical Center East for treatment after the shooting.
He was then flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in extremely critical condition and died on Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff’s detectives believe the gunman was hired by someone to shoot and kill Ochoa-Tello.
Two people have since been arrested in the case, with charges being filed against one of them.
