A man suffered moderate injuries after he crashed his SUV into a large tree, causing it to fall down and his car to roll over, near Marengo Thursday morning, fire officials said.
The Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:23 a.m. Thursday to the area of Kishwaukee Valley Road and Oleson Road in unincorporated Marengo.
Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said it was reported that a vehicle rolled over and there was entrapment.
Additional information was received indicating that a male occupant was unable to free himself from the car.
A medical helicopter was placed on standby as fire crews responded to the scene, Vucha said.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and located a Nissan Xterra SUV on its roof near the intersection.
A large tree had been struck and had fallen down off the roadway.
Vucha said the adult male driver was outside the vehicle when first responders arrived and paramedics completed an evaluation of him.
The helicopter was canceled and the man was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with moderate but non-life-threatening injuries.
He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no other vehicles were reported to be involved in the crash, Vucha said.
Oleson Road was briefly shut down but Kishwaukee Valley Road remained open throughout the incident.
A tow truck removed the damaged Nissan from the scene.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash. It is unclear whether any charges or citations were filed.
