Authorities are conducting searches in and around Diamond Lake on Friday for a 51-year-old Mundelein man who went missing under concerning circumstances with foul play suspected.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday they are searching for Ruslan Furman, 51, who was last known to reside in the 26500 block of North Route 60-83 in unincorporated Mundelein.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said Furman had not been seen in over a week from Wednesday.

Detectives believe there could be foul play linked to his disappearance.

Covelli said Furman is missing under “concerning circumstances” but declined to elaborate further.

Furman was last seen near his home and was last seen wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt.

He is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

When asked whether the case was being treated as a homicide, Covelli said detectives are still treating it as a missing person investigation at this point.

Members of the sheriff’s office, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the fire department will be searching nearby Diamond Lake on Friday for any evidence of his disappearance in the lake.

Canine units were also searching by land around Diamond Lake on Friday morning.

On Tuesday, a search warrant was obtained for crime-related evidence at Furman’s residence in the 26500 block of North Route 83 in unincorporated Mundelein.

A heavy police presence consisting of police canines, detectives and SWAT team members was seen in the area on Tuesday afternoon as the warrant was carried out.

Investigators and the SWAT team also appeared to carry out a second search warrant at a nearby home in the 26600 block of North Kenwood Court.

A portion of Route 83 between Diamond Lake Road and Midlothian Road was shut down.

Detectives remained in the area from around 1 p.m. Tuesday until the evening hours.

Investigators arrested Dmitry Bogatiryov, 52, of Mundelein, and Damen Voranoff, 55, of Mundelein.

Covelli said the two men were found in possession of firearms and a large amount of cannabis inside their residence during a search warrant in connection with the missing person investigation.

Bogatiryov was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm without a FOID, manufacturing or delivery of 2,000-5,000 grams of cannabis and possession of cannabis over 5,000 grams.

Voranoff was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm without a FOID, manufacturing or delivery of 500-2,000 grams of cannabis and possession of cannabis between 2,000-5,000 grams.

Public records link Bogatiryov to the home on Route 83 and Voranoff to the home on Kenwood Court.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Theis said Voranoff was found with 14 guns and over 1,000 grams of cannabis, consisting of flower and THC cartridge pods.

Voranoff does not have a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card or concealed carry license. He does not have an extensive criminal history, Theis said, adding that he was on pre-trial release for a misdemeanor child endangerment case.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Dino Katris said Bogatiryov was found with four guns, 1,437 grams of flower cannabis, 1,227 grams of cannabis oil and 75 grams of cannabis wax.

Bogatiryov also does not have a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card.

The charges against both of the men are non-detainable. Bogatiryov was released on pre-trial release conditions but Voranoff was ordered held pending a hearing to revoke his pre-trial release in his prior case for committing the new offense.
