A man, possibly in his 60s, died after he was found critically injured after being struck by at least one vehicle on Waukegan’s far north side Friday evening.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 10:17 p.m. Friday to the area of York House Road and Newcastle Court for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Emergency crews arrived and found a crash involving a male pedestrian and a vehicle west of the Jewel-Osco.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of his injuries, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office was called to the scene to take possession of the decedent for an autopsy.

Officials believe the man was in his 60s but they have not confirmed his identity yet.

Bystanders reported the man was walking in the street and may have been hit by multiple cars.

At least one vehicle, which had a broken windshield, remained at the scene and was part of the investigation.

Police shut down the roadway for several hours while the Waukegan Police Department Major Crash Unit responded and conducted an investigation.

The Waukegan Police Department has not released any information on the incident as of Sunday.

An autopsy has been scheduled for the victim for Monday.
