A driver was uninjured after his van rolled into the water while he was trying to load his boat onto a trailer, prompting a water rescue response, at a marina near Antioch Sunday afternoon.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Antioch Fire Protection District responded around 1:45 p.m. Sunday to Turtle Beach Marina, 42273 North Woodbine Avenue in unincorporated Antioch, for a report of a water rescue.
Multiple fire departments were dispatched but were canceled after it was confirmed no one was in need of rescue from the water.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a trailer in the water at the boat ramp.
The trailer was behind a 2008 Chevrolet Express van, which was partially submerged in the water.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 54-year-old Crest Hill man, was uninjured in the incident.
He told deputies he was attempting to load his boat onto the trailer attached to the Chevrolet and left the vehicle in neutral, Covelli said.
Covelli said the gear placement resulted in the van rolling backwards into the water while he was outside the vehicle.
A tow truck was called and removed the Chevrolet with the assistance of the fire department.
The driver was then able to drive the Chevrolet away from the scene, Covelli said.
