An investigation is underway after a large multi-story barn was left fully engulfed in flames and burnt to the ground in Barrington Hills, fire officials said.
The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District and Barrington Hills Police Department responded around 2 p.m. Saturday to the 100 block of West Dundee Road in Barrington Hills for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived in less than six minutes and found a 40-foot by 40-foot multi-story barn on fire, according to Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Fire Chief Scott Motisi.
The structure was already fully engulfed with flames and smoke showing from all sides.
The fire was reported to 911 by property managers at the site.
It was confirmed that the building was unoccupied with no imminent life risk, Motisi said.
Firefighters initiated a fire attack plan that focused on protecting nearby structures.
The barn was left unsalvageable after it burnt to the ground. No other structures nearby were damaged.
Motisi said the Cuba Township Road District responded to the scene with a backhoe and an operator to pull apart debris so firefighters could ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
No injuries were reported to anyone on the property or to firefighters.
The Barrington Fire Department, Inverness Fire Protection District, Long Grove Fire Protection District, Cary Fire Protection District, Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department, East Dundee Fire Protection District, Buffalo Grove Fire Department, Wheeling Fire Department, Hoffman Estates Fire Department and Fox River Grove Fire Protection District assisted during the incident along with the Hanover Township Emergency Services.
The cause and origin of the fire remains under active investigation by the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District.
