The coroner has released the identity of a man who died after he was reportedly hit by multiple vehicles along York House Road in Waukegan Friday evening.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 10:17 p.m. Friday to the area of York House Road and Newcastle Court for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Emergency crews arrived and found a crash involving a male pedestrian and a vehicle west of the Jewel-Osco.

The victim suffered critical injuries and was found unresponsive when first responders arrived.

He was pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of his injuries, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

He was identified on Tuesday as 64-year-old Cheeramkulathu Jobgeevarghese, also known as Job Kurian, of Waukegan.

The coroner’s office was called to the scene to take possession of Jobgeevarghese for an autopsy.

An autopsy performed on Monday showed that Jobgeevarghese died as a result of blunt force injuries from being struck by a vehicle, Banek said.

Bystanders reported the man was walking in the street and may have been hit by multiple cars.

At least one vehicle, which had a broken windshield, remained at the scene and was part of the investigation.

Police shut down the roadway for several hours while the Waukegan Police Department Major Crash Unit responded and conducted an investigation.

The Waukegan Police Department has not released any information on the incident as of Tuesday.
